At Computer Troubleshooters - Bondi Junction we're mainly a service and support organisation. That means we'd prefer to fix your computer, if possible, rather than just try to sell you a new one.
Whether your computer is new or old, we can fix most hardware problems with your computer at our service center. All computers that come in for repair get a solid hardware check first so that we can tell you exactly what's wrong and how much it'll cost to fix.
We install memory and hard disks, fit DVD burners, replace motherboards, and can do a wide range of upgrades to your computers.
We also do laptop repairs.
Sometimes though, it'll get to the point where the computer's too old, or has too much wrong with it to make it cost effective to repair. Surprisingly, once a computer gets to about 3 years of age, it is starting to get too old. There are a couple of reasons for this.
Firstly, computer manufacturers will provide warranties of up to about three years maximum. This is how long they expect the computer to reasonably last. Mostly, this is due to the hard disk, which is mechanical, and which has a typical life of 3 to 5 years.
Trying to use a computer beyond about three years, particularly if it has a critical role in year business, is pretty well living on borrowed time.
Secondly, the rate of improvement in computer technology means that computers about double in capacity per year. That's how fast they can go, the size of disk drives, and so on. That means that a three year old computer will be running EIGHT times slower than a new computer.
Software and operating system manufacturers—such as Microsoft, Adobe, etc.—write their software to run on fairly new computers. That means that if you try to run the latest and greatest software (such as Microsoft's Vista) on a three year old computer, it'll be slow. Often unbearably slow.
Then it's probably time for a new computer.
